We have now finished our magazine. We had decided to call it ‘Infinity Rockz’. As a group we had chosen to call it infinity rocks and as for our banner we chose 'Indie For Infinity' because it links to our theme and sounds as if Indie music is never ending. The audience that we have aimed this magazine is for young adults / teenagers. We you can tell this is for teenagers because of the use of slang in 'RockZ' instead of correct standard english. The type of magazine music genre we had chosen to do was Indie , this was because we wanted to chose something different.
Our cover consist of a group picture of our band ‘The Black Out’ . As a masthead we used the name of our magazine, the text that we used was bold and highlighted so it can attract buyers. We also added the main sell line, which was the name of our band ‘ The Black Out’ this givers a convention of a real music magazine. As a group we had to take pictures of our selfs and had to find a background that would suit out image. As a class we had been given a tutorial on how to us a new form of technology in the media industry, this was called photoshop this helped us edit, cut, crop and resize our front covers. With out picture we was able to move and cut any images using music stick which was easy to do and quick. We started adding another images such as guiters and microphones , which made it look more like a real magazine. As two groups we had decided to make to editions which was Autumn and Winter. We then started to put together out magazine starting with the background of leaves which linked to our edition which was Autumn. We then added our cover lines, images of other bands such as foo-fighters, razor light. We also added offers such as win free tickets to glastonbury , tickets to infinity awards to entice buyer and offering free posters of young popular bands. These are important to include in a magazine so it can attract the audience into buying it. We had added last the barcode and the price which is only £2.50. This is a reasonable price of young teenagers to buy, we had chosen not to make it expensive because young teenagers would be able to purchase it. Our magazine would be distributed in local shop, internet sites and music shops this would make it easier for young teenagers to access it.
I have learnt a lot about how technologies from the process of constricting this magazine in recent years have developed to create many ways of todays media, such as magazine covers. In this task i have learnt have to use photoshop, which had helped us develop our magazine. If we was to make another front cover, i would change a few things such as from using more colours other than black and red. This would have made our magazine stand out more to audience and also adding a bit more text.

Magazine Evaluation
As a group, before we were to decide on what genre we wanted our music magazine to be, we looked into the Music magazine Industry which included looking into successful music magazines that are present today, we looked into a variety of genres, including, Rock, Hip-Hop, RNB, Indie and many more. Through our research we came to the conclusion that making a music magazine for an ‘Indie’ audience would be successful. We saw and recognised that although ‘Indie’ music is very popular and is one of the leading genres in today’s world of music, there are hardly any music magazines out there supporting and representing this genre. Therefore constructing a music magazine for this genre would be strongly successful in today’s music and ‘Indie’ audience.
In choosing the genre ‘Indie’ we also found that an audience of young adults/teenagers are prone to buying and listening to ‘Indie’ music, they are also prone to buying music magazines in general. Due to this, we decided that our Target Audience would be for young adults/teenagers and would be for both genders.
This way our magazine has a head start in the selling industry as it fits in perfect alongside with our target audience, they’re looking for a music magazine that represents the genre ‘Indie’ and there not being hardly any out there, the introduction of ‘Infinity Rockz’ should be a major hit.
We decided as a group that the Mast Head of our magazine was going to be “Infinity Rockz”. We chose this name as it carries the connotations that Indie Music will be around for ‘Infinity’ and that it ‘Rockz’. This appeals to our target audience, as them being Indie listeners they personally think that the genre ‘Rockz’ and hope that the genre will last for ‘Infinity’ in meaning forever. On top of the letter ‘O’ in the word ‘Rockz’ we have placed a small graphic of a crown, once again we done this as it appeals to our target audience.
Our music magazine cover follows the conventions of a real music magazine cover.
It contains a Mast Head, a Strap line, a Main Cover Line, Graphics, Banners, Boxed text, Cover lines and of course a Main Cover Image. We placed our Mast Head to the top right of the cover, we done this so if the magazine happens to be stacked on a shelf behind another, still the first letter can be read and our audience will know that, that’s ‘Infinity Rockz’. Our Mast Head is big, bold and bright, we edited it like this to make it stand out and attract our target audience. The main cover image is my self and my group. We took a photo of our selves using a digital camera, these images were then uploaded to the computer and my self and my partner photo shopped them on to our cover background, which is of trees and rocks placed out doors. Our Main cover image being out side informs the audience that our magazine is the Autumn Edition. We are all posing in certain ways that our audience can relate to, we are also wearing suitable clothing that an average ‘Indie’ band would be seen wearing.
Our Strap line consists of the text “Indie for Infinity”, this relates to the Mast Head as both contain the word “Infinity”. Our Strap Line along with our Main Cover Image inform the audience on the genre of our magazine, the Strap line does this almost directly as it contains the actual name of the genre, in being “Indie”. We made this the same colour as our Mast Head and placed it directly underneath it, ensuring that our target audience will recognise this. We used a large eye catching, dark coloured graphic and on it we placed some bright coloured text. In making the text contrast with the graphic it immediately made the text stand out. The text is a competition. Advertising a competition on our front cover also makes it more appealing to our target audience as they then get a sense of excitement and will want to buy the magazine in the hope to enter and win; this also offers interactivity between the audience and the magazine. The boxed text and Banners work together in advertising some of the bands and content that’s going to be inside the magazine. This too makes the audience appeal even stronger. All of the conventions listed all successfully make my music magazine seem realistic. To just push that sense of realism even further we added a barcode, a price and a date.
The mode of address of our cover includes exclamation marks and some use of slang language. We used these as the exclamation marks set the impression and carry’s the connotations that Indie music can be quite loud yet direct and the use of slang language directly sends the subliminal message to our target audience that this magazine is for them.
Our magazine cover represents certain social groups in a positive way as it shows that young people don’t all follow the stereotype of a typical teenager. It shows that this type of person is expressing them self’s positively through music and is sitting back and reading up on music and the topics that come to their interest. It also shows that some young people are musically talented and do focus on the good things in life.
From constructing this magazine cover I have learnt many things about technologies.
I have learnt how to use photo shop on the computer, how to effectively edit text and photos, how to make a realistic looking magazine cover, how to use a digital camera effectively and skills I didn’t have before, I now do. I also learnt that there’s a lot of time and effort that goes into making a realistic and effective magazine cover.
The kind of media institution that might distribute my music magazine would be an institution such as ‘HMV’ or ‘Zavvi’, as these are two very well known entertainment stores that mainly consist of musical entertainment including a variety of music magazines. They would want to distribute my magazine as it would attract customers to there stores, as people would go there knowing “Infinity Rockz” would be there and at the same time they might pick up an Album from their store. As there store attracts a wide variety of music lovers my magazine would fit in there nicely.
If I were to construct another music magazine, I would perhaps spend a little longer planning out the process of designing it, I would also look into the genre in a deeper level enabling me to address my audience more effectively. But in all, I am very pleased with the way it all came together.

Evaluation!
We decided to call our music magazine "Infinity Rockz", which would be aimed at young adults/teenagers that have a strong interest in Indie music. The target audience that we decided on, was for all genders, because we thought that this makes it more sellable because it will attract a wider range of people. We chose this title because it has connotations that Indie music will be around for infinity, that it never ends, and... It "rockz"! This gives the target audience a sense of commitment to the music, as they want to keep it around for infinity, which generally means buying the magazine every time it’s out.
Our cover consists of the usual conventions of a typical music magazine, and we wanted to include some of the very popular conventions of magazines like NME, etc, although this type of magazine is more concerned with the genre of Rock, we thought we would follow in the footsteps of a successful magazine like this. The main image on my front cover is of me and the people in my group as the Indie group that are the main focus of my magazine. Although bands are usually looking straight into the camera to connect with the audience, we decided that we would make this a little different in order to attract the target audience in a different way. The background of our front cover is of a park, with rocks and trees in order to put the theme across that it is the Autumn Edition of “Infinity Rockz”. The band name is “The Blackout” which follows the usual idea of names of groups. As the title of the magazine is always justified to the right, we made this the case in ours too. Also, the other group that were doing the Winter Edition of our magazine also used the exactly the same font in order to make our magazine recognisable to the target audience, as it would always be the same. We also have slogan that is directly underneath the masthead, which says “Indie for Infinity” this was chosen because it also agrees with the connotations of the name of the magazine, and makes it very clear to the audience what the genre is. We have included cover lines, which in this case out the chance to win free tickets to Glastonbury, which is used as a way to get people to involve themselves in the magazine, and it is generally a way of selling. We decided that when thinking about our mode of address, we would use some slang language that most probably only makes sense to our target audience, and we used lots of exclamation marks which has the connotations that Indie music can be quite loud and direct. We have boxed text that includes the names of all the bands that will appear in the magazine, so gives the audience a taste of what to expect from it. This also makes the magazine seem a lot more appealing because they will recognise most of the bands. Things like this are what we thought would attract and address our audience, as we thought it would pull them in and make it attractive to them. Moreover, there is also a banner at the bottom of the page, which can also be seen as a sell line, because it is all about winning a table at the infinity awards, which makes the magazine again, seem more exciting and might make the audience want to be in with this chance. In order to make our magazine cover look realistic, we added a barcode, date and price. Also, we made it clear what edition of the magazine this front cover was from. Furthermore, we was quite happy with how our front cover came out, because it is very bold, busy but clear and we thought it was very straight to the point. We thought that the outcome looked very realistic and believable. Our magazine cover represents young people in a positive way because it shows that this type of person has something to focus on, and that they have interests and passion in things too. Also, this could suggest that young adults/particularly teenagers could have a talent in this field. So this is a positive thing that our front cover does.
From the process of constructing this magazine front cover, I have learnt how to plan successfully in our groups, also how to use a digital camera to shoot our photos which I was not really too sure about how to do before. The main thing that I learnt was how to use Photoshop, and this includes how to make the front cover actually look like a real and professional one. In learning how the use Photoshop, it meant that I could crop pictures, change backgrounds, and texts of all different styles, and insert shapes and images that I edited. All this and more was what helped my magazine to come out looking as believable as possible, because I began to find it very easy to use this technology once I got the hang of it, so this meant that I was playing around with it until it became exactly how I wanted my front cover.
If i were to make another front cover, I think that I would do a few things differently the next time. I think that I would look deeper into the genre, and specifically makes up that genre so I would know how to address the audience easier. Also, this would give it a more significant meaning than I think it already has. Concerning the photo shoot, I think I would plan the costumes of our group members better, because although the main cover image looks good, we could have been dressed to depict the Indie genre that we chose. Apart from this, I wouldn’t change anything in the construction of my magazine front cover as I am very happy with it.

Evaluation
The task set was to produce two music genre magazine covers, for an AS Media Studies Project which was to be completed over a four week period. My fellow students within my media class and I were divided into groups of four. The students within each group were those that you would be working alongside until the completion of the project.
The group that I had originally been allocated to had previously decided that the genre of music magazine they would produce was going to be a RNB/HIP HOP magazine. Although I was not completely sold on this idea, as I would have rather be designing and creating a magazine cover for a more specific audience. In addition to this I do not agree with some of the representations that are portrayed through some RNB/Hip Hop magazines, therefore it seemed most appropriate for me to work on a different genre of music and join a different group.
The title of the music magazine that I helped to graft in my new group is called 'Infinity Rockz'. With this magazine my colleagues and I were making a deliberate attempt to attract a niche audience, INDIE music lovers.
One of the reasons that we chose to design an INDIE music magazine cover was that we wanted to be very specific in terms of the audience we were catering for. I believe that the 'unique selling point' (USP) of our group magazine is that the genre is INDIE.From my knowledge of INDIE music, I know that it appeals to a near niche, and specified proportion of individuals. Not to mention that there is only a select portion of magazines that cater for INDIE music lovers. Whereas a music genre like for instance POP is readily available in most shops.
I believe that 'Infinity Rockz' could be percieved as representing a social group, however when producing our magazine we took into consideration the stereotpes and prejudices that could be associated through some of the visuals e.g. ethnicity, gender etc.
We chose to address our audience with by using images that could be identified with INDIE music.
If I were to have the chance to re do this task I would ensure that the pre production stages of this magazine were thorough. For instance costume that were more suited or idnetifiable with some of the stereotypes often associated with INDIE lovers. I would have also added more text as I think that the cover lacks content that have given a better indication of the genre magazine.

The type of media institution that would be most likely to distribute 'INFINITY ROCKZ' would be a music store for instance HMV, Zanga, Virgin etc. I think these retailer are most likely to stock our magazine as INDIE music lovers are also likely toshop in theses stores. Funky retail stores or perhaps a high street stores such as Topshop and H&M.
From the process of constructing this magazine I now know that the media use a variety of tools and effects to require a specific image and to better it. I also learnt that this can be a long and daunting process especially when trying to complete this to a deadline. In addition to this to meet industry standards there is a lot of labour that must go into the production of the magazine, right from the pre production, product and t the post production stages of creating a magazine.

Production Stages
With the entire group present this lesson it was agreed that we would photograph ourselves as the main images for the covers of our magazine covers. We took a number of photos using a digital camera provided by the CANDI Media department.
One problem we encountered was that we accidentally recorded two videos of ourselves instead of taking two photographs, which to our disappointment were unable to use as photos as we quite liked them. Although it would have been possible to take stills from the videos we recorded if necessary.
We could have done this by uploading the video onto editing software, e.g. Final cut or iMovie HD. We would have dragged the rushes into a timeline and selected a fragment of the footage which, we would produce a still of using the "create still" function to make a still image. However this can be a time consuming process when working by the clock to meet a strict deadline.
Once we got back to the editing suite and our photos had been uploaded, the group was able to divide into pairs and work on the two separate covers we would produce. The pairs were Lauren and Shannen then,Layla and myself.
We also decided between the four of us that the two editions of magazine we would produce were going to be Winter, which Layla and myself would be working on predominately and the Autumn edition, Shannen and Lauren.
At this moment we also made certain the name of our magazine which my classmates had conferred upon prior to me joining the group. The name that had been agreed by all was INFINITY ROCKZ. I like this title as I believe that is unique. The title also includes the first two letters of the word and genre(INDIE) of our magazine, which is I think is a significant detail that relates to the concept of our magazine.
The software we used to create our magazine cover was Photoshop, we were able to use this software as we were given a tutorial and from previous knowledge of skills learnt.
Layla and myself began by selecting a photograph of ourselves from those up we uploaded, we decided to use a photograph of the both of leaning on banister together and my fingers in a piece sign.
After, we searched through the images of locations taken by our existing group members for a suitable background location, that would work in conjunction with the image of ourselves. The image we agreed upon was of colourful lights on the wall, of a city centre not far from the CANDI premise.

Next we used the "Magic tool" in Photoshop to cut around our bodies in the photo of ourselves.
Next we used the "Magic tool" in Photoshop to cut around our bodies in the photo of ourselves.
Once we had done this it was possible for Layla and myself to put position the image of ourselves on top of the background using the inverse and paste functions.
Then we moved on to the font, we decided to use Stencil STD as we thought the style of the font was one that most suited the concept behind our magazine. We also titled the the title so that it was sloping toward one side of the page, as this gave the font a more rebellious look. In addition to this we positioned a crown from the shapes box on top of the letter 'O'. We purposely done this as it relates to the title, as the word 'rock' can also be used to say that something is good or something rules meaning that it possess some sort of power.Lastly we used Simply Sharp Pillow Emboss over the title in order for it to stand out.
Then Layla and I conferred with Shannen and Lauren what supporting text and images we would use for our covers. We decided on bands and competitions that relate to the genre and content of our magazine.
Initial Photographs
I left my previous group as they wanted to produce an RNB magazine, as I found the concept of designing and making an INDIE magazine more appealing it, seemed most appropriate to join this group.
Being the last member to join the group, meant that I missed the first lesson in which my colleagues discussed and decided which genre of music magazine we would produce, however this was not a problem, as I was thoroughly informed of the specifications and their ideas prior to our meeting in which I also informed my colleagues of some of my own concepts for the magazine.
One of our group members were absent this lesson, nevertheless this was a minor set back. The initial photographs taken for our music magazines were taken by a couple of my group members, these were of locations which were potential background images for the front cover of our magazine.
Whilst my group members took photographs of the possible locations, I took it upon myself to undertake additional research for the benefit of our magazine.
My research consisted of browsing various genre magazines and taking note of relevant content e.g. colour, font, shape, format, style, layout, images, style, etc. I then fed back the ideas that I later generated from my notes, to my existing group members on their arrival from taking photos.

Taking photos for our front cover
We - in our groups, were told to go out and take photos of out selves for the front cover of our music magazine. However some group members were missing therefore we done the best we could by taking photos of suitable backgrounds that could potentially be the base of our front cover. The following lesson we all met up and took pictures of our selves posing for the potential image that was going to be placed on the background of our magazine.
Once we were happy and agreed that the images were suitable for the genre of our magazine, we split our selves into two groups of two. We then decided that our group would do a summer edition and the other group would do a winter edition. We then made our way to the computers to start photo shop.
