With the entire group present this lesson it was agreed that we would photograph ourselves as the main images for the covers of our magazine covers. We took a number of photos using a digital camera provided by the CANDI Media department.
One problem we encountered was that we accidentally recorded two videos of ourselves instead of taking two photographs, which to our disappointment were unable to use as photos as we quite liked them. Although it would have been possible to take stills from the videos we recorded if necessary.
We could have done this by uploading the video onto editing software, e.g. Final cut or iMovie HD. We would have dragged the rushes into a timeline and selected a fragment of the footage which, we would produce a still of using the "create still" function to make a still image. However this can be a time consuming process when working by the clock to meet a strict deadline.
Once we got back to the editing suite and our photos had been uploaded, the group was able to divide into pairs and work on the two separate covers we would produce. The pairs were Lauren and Shannen then,Layla and myself.
We also decided between the four of us that the two editions of magazine we would produce were going to be Winter, which Layla and myself would be working on predominately and the Autumn edition, Shannen and Lauren.
At this moment we also made certain the name of our magazine which my classmates had conferred upon prior to me joining the group. The name that had been agreed by all was INFINITY ROCKZ. I like this title as I believe that is unique. The title also includes the first two letters of the word and genre(INDIE) of our magazine, which is I think is a significant detail that relates to the concept of our magazine.
The software we used to create our magazine cover was Photoshop, we were able to use this software as we were given a tutorial and from previous knowledge of skills learnt.
Layla and myself began by selecting a photograph of ourselves from those up we uploaded, we decided to use a photograph of the both of leaning on banister together and my fingers in a piece sign.
After, we searched through the images of locations taken by our existing group members for a suitable background location, that would work in conjunction with the image of ourselves. The image we agreed upon was of colourful lights on the wall, of a city centre not far from the CANDI premise.

We began by dragging the background image we had selected onto a blank page.
Next we used the "Magic tool" in Photoshop to cut around our bodies in the photo of ourselves.
Next we used the "Magic tool" in Photoshop to cut around our bodies in the photo of ourselves.
Once we had done this it was possible for Layla and myself to put position the image of ourselves on top of the background using the inverse and paste functions.
Then we moved on to the font, we decided to use Stencil STD as we thought the style of the font was one that most suited the concept behind our magazine. We also titled the the title so that it was sloping toward one side of the page, as this gave the font a more rebellious look. In addition to this we positioned a crown from the shapes box on top of the letter 'O'. We purposely done this as it relates to the title, as the word 'rock' can also be used to say that something is good or something rules meaning that it possess some sort of power.Lastly we used Simply Sharp Pillow Emboss over the title in order for it to stand out.
Then Layla and I conferred with Shannen and Lauren what supporting text and images we would use for our covers. We decided on bands and competitions that relate to the genre and content of our magazine.
